Usually when my chickens would lay eggs like that (many moons ago I had 8 little ladies) I would go out and buy crushed oyster shell at the local feed mill to give them - it helps harden up their shells so its easier for them to pop them out!
maybe a wrinkled marshmallow but certainly weird and if you had a caption to this one (the game I love ) I would put"do you think you can turn the heat on a little ,says momma chicken, brrrrr"
Tex....when I first picked it up I thought it was going to be soft! ....I will tell Anna that you liked her hands :-)
Bee Lady....It actually could look like anything BUT an egg right?!
Gorges....in 25 years of just a small backyard flock, this is my first egg like this. Sounds like it doesn't happen too often if your wife only saw it a few times in a bigger flock.
Ocean Breezes....it looks like it may have hurt coming out doesn't it?
Feral Woman....that's just it...she had all the oyster shell she wanted. But it has something to do with the calcium absorbtion is my guess. She's an old hen so maybe she just isn't utilizing the calcium. It's my old leghorn...the only one in my flock that lays a white egg, so I know it's her egg.
judy....LOL on your caption! I would S-o-o-o-o pick that one!
Alli....totally normal inside:-)
Gail....it almost looks like it was soft coming out and then hardened LOL!
Dicky Bird....it kinda does look needle felted. (This being said by a woman that needled felted hard yesterday and woke up with tennis elbow -- who would-a-thunk?)
I had four hens from the ten chicks I raised. One of the four always laid bumpy eggs, but nothing like that one. That is one weird looking egg and looks like it had a rough ride down.

I thought it looked like bath salts! Weird.
Cindy Bee
My wife says that she remembers seeing a few eggs like that as a kid. But they were sort of in the business ans had a lot of chickens.
That is one crazy looking egg! LOL!! Looks like it has tide marks!
LOL yes I agree with the hand model comment :)

Did you open it? Was it normal on the inside? Looks like it was a little painful coming out! :)
It's looks like a soft shell...amazing.
Looks like it is made of cotton or even needle felted...it is unusual!
