It is loaded with fruit this year. My husband calls it a "bear dinner bell". The chickens think the fruit is a great substitute for a worm. But, the grandkids thought it was a mulberry piñata! They had a grand time gobbling up the fruit as it fell.
A mulberry tree is a great addition to a homestead. Planting it by the chicken coop was perfect for shade and chicken food. All my grown children were saying "I want a mulberry tree!". I reminded them it would be a pretty messy tree in town.
Mulberry wine....mulberry pie......mulberry jam....just thinking out loud :-)

Did you sing 'Here we go 'round the Mulberry Bush' as you picked? What do they taste like?
Mulberries are delicious and fun to grow when you have the perfect place for them as you do.
I LOVE MULBERRIES... there I said it. I don't care if my hands are purple for a month!
Oh, how I miss the mulberry trees that we had back in IL. We just planted four of them on our place here and I can't wait for them to start putting out fruit!
Glad your trees are putting out all those berries for ya!
We live at the edge of the woods. I doubt if we could keep the deer and the birds out of them!
I think it is awesome when people plant trees. A bonus to any home. sandie
YUMM!
Roxy....they taste a bit like raspberries....and yes, we did sing here we go round the mulberry bush :-)
Doc....You're right, the perfect place for them is a key thing to consider when planting one. Otherwise we're talking hornets and stained purple sidewalks :-)
Mary Ann....lol....I like the color purple too!
Carolyn....bet your trees will be bearing fast!
Gorges Smythe....there is so much fruit on the tree this year we are gladly sharing with the birds. We live on the edge of a woods too...that's why my husband calls it a bear dinner bell. I refuse to think about it :-) (there are bear around)
Chatty Crone....I have a yard full of young trees. The kids thought we should have bought grown trees to have planted for quicker shade. I like the idea of watching them grow, and, the next generation can say "grandma and grandpa planted this tree ". :-)
fernvalley01....you said it! And, free is always good :-)
