Total Cuteness

Angora bunny Sparkle, 15 days old.
Promised to granddaughter Gracie as her pet bunny.
She was named by Gracie.

(Gracie's mom is going to use Sparkle as a therapy bunny
at the grade school where she works.
Gracie's grandma (me) is going to spin the wool into yarn...
for Gracie's mom. :-)

A Wisconsin Fish Boil

Tonight we had our 1st Annual Family Corn Roast
and Fish Boil,
featuring sweet corn, red potatoes and onions from the garden.
The corn soaked in salt water for 20 hours, and then was roasted over the open fire until it looked like it was totally burnt.

The little bit that chars is actually the best part.
Roasted corn has just enough of a different taste
than boiled corn that it is totally worth the effort.

Usually a fish boil uses whitefish or lake trout.
We substituted a fresh caught King Salmon.

For 10 people
Bring to a rolling boil, 2 gallons of water
1 cup salt
3 Tbl. Old Bay Seasoning
(in the seasoning section at grocery store)
3 bay leaves
1 Tbl. ground white pepper

Add 20 whole small red potatoes and 6 carrots.
Boil 15 minutes.

Add 10 medium peeled whole onions
Keep boiling 10 more minutes.

Add salmon serving size chunked, with skin on.
(Ours was a 14 lb-er)
Keep boiling 10 more minutes.

Serve with melted butter.

I can't describe to you how good it was!
(the picture does not do it justice)

A wiffle ball game and popsicle for dessert.
It doesn't get any better than this.......

Kits

Zsa-Zsa had her babies last Sat.
9 angora kits...in some great colors!
(I'm visioning the yarn already.)

My 4 yr. old grandson Riley looked at the nest and said,
"I see one more egg."
*Ahem*....we had a birds and bees talk.

I'm learning to make yarn on a drop spindle.
This is made of 100% llama...Pele & Gallante. (not mine)
I love that it is the same color as my weathered chair outside.

....oh shoot your eyes were closed.
Now this time keep your eyes wide open....

:-)

Grandson Ryan is ready to go fishing in his new hat.

Horehound and Elder flower drying on the kitchen table.
I would like to try my hand at some horehound cough drops this year.

Breezy is 5 months old.
It's 90 degrees outside.
She's laying in the sunbeam over the top of the air conditioning vent.
Life is good if you're a dog in our house!

Sunday In Pictures

You probably noticed I took a blogging break.
I think it did me good.
In the mean time I learned how to needle felt.
(very therapeutic jabbing things with a needle, lol)
I hope to have a small animal for each grandchild for Christmas.

My 10 year old niece Anna,
hung with me a few days.
She learned how to needle felt too.

My wine glass rack serves double
 duty in the summer :-)
Yarrow flowers are drying for
dried flower arrangements.
The leaves have already been dried
as a medicinal herb.

Remember this mysterious track in the garden?

Ya, well, .....we figured it out.
My son's size 13 Nike's.
The rain had washed away the front part
of the track just leaving the heel imprint.
Mystery solved.  :-)

The grandkids had a great time
at our 4th of July party.
.....so did the adults.  I brought out my
gallon of homemade apple wine.  With
a splash of pineapple vodka in it I
must say YUM :-)

I think Ryan had a smile on his face all night.
It was so hot...the kids had a water fight all
evening until just before the fireworks started.

All the kids got a glow light flashlight
with a whistle on the end.  I found them in the
camping supply section of Wal-Mart.
They were a huge hit....and also a little ear splitting :-)

Posts will still be limited for a while, I'll try to keep some pictures coming...and...get around to reading your posts!
