Welcome 2011! Soup's On!

I've been told a few times that I should start a blog about all the garden, herbal medicines, farmette animals, canning, etc., etc. that I love doing.  What's a new year for if it isn't for trying out something new?  I could write a whole bio about myself, but I am sure my postings will fill you in along the way.  So, here goes.

On this last day of 2010 ----- Homemade chicken soup is on the stove simmering.  I started a whole new pot of it because my new grand-nephew was born this morning, and I wanted his mama to get a great start nursing!  This is REAL chicken soup, more like Chicken Booyah.  It's going to simmer all day today. About 6:00 I will turn off the burner, and at 9:00 I will put it in the refrig.  In the morning I will skim off any excess fat, and then back to the burner to simmer till at least 2:00 p.m.
Here's what's in it so far.  All the bones, skin, and drippings from the last roasted chicken we had (it's been in the freezer),  3 large onions, 3 cloves of elephant garlic, 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar (to draw the minerals out of the bones), 3 large carrots, 2 celery hearts, 2 bay leaves, 4 whole clove, 4 whole allspice, &1 tbls. course ground white pepper, 1 quart of homemade chicken stock from the freezer, and water to fill the 2 gallon stainless steel stock pot up.  Tomorrow, I'll tell you how it's finished up.  Welcome to this world Gabriel Peter!!
