Butsch Made It!

Future Leader Dog Butsch is now Leader Dog Butsch!
He was matched with his forever person yesterday.

Leader Dogs For The Blind always gives their raisers the opportunity to meet the new owner and see the dog one last time. (Now all grown up)  Unfortunately, we live just far enough away from the school that a 1000 mile round trip for that meeting becomes very hard.  I will be sending all his puppy pictures, a toy, and a letter to his new owner.  It is up to the blind person if they would like to keep in contact.

For all my new followers, Busch was the 8th puppy I raised for Leader Dogs For The Blind in Rochester Michigan (down by Detroit).  I currently am raising my 9th puppy, a black lab named Breezy. (And by the way new followers....Welcome, Welcome!)

.....proud puppy mama

Butsch is gorgeous! We have had German Shepherds and now have Labs. They are both wonderful breeds, aren't they! I have a friend very active in Paws for a Cause. That's another group that raises dogs for service.

Do you ever get teary over notifications like this or do you just feel very proud and happy? (Geesh, it must be something like raising one of your kids and sending them out into the world!)

Bless you for your efforts.

I think it's wonderful that you raise dogs for this purpose. I get SO attached that I'm not sure I could do that- so, I admire you even more!:)
I have a Shepherd that we rescued.

Tex....thanks for the blessing!

Lois....I love both breeds, but they are both different to train! Shepherds are a lot more aware of their surroundings. Paws For A Cause and Leader Dog share dogs back and forth...i.e. a puppy that can't pick up a dime for Paws could still lead a blind person for Leader Dog.

Gorges....thank-you!

Patrice....Leader Dogs does a great job in helping us when we have to turn the dogs in. They also have truely helped us learn how much it means to the blind person. The dog truly does change their lives. .....thanks for choosing a rescue dog!!

Mama Pea.... Very, very, proud is the feeling you get when they say they placed him with his partner. The whole while he's being trained though, you hope you don't get a call that says he has been "career changed". You are kinda on pins and needles until he finally gets placed.

I am a little ashamed to say I didn't know you did this. Now I am even more in awe of you. That is a beautiful Shepard. It must be so hard to part with these special dogs.

Mary Ann....He was the first Shepherd I raised. I learned a lot more training skills on him
:-) Is he not the most gorgeous dog you ever saw? (I'm probably prejudice)

Birds, Bees, Berries, and Blooms....thanks, and thanks for the blessing on Butsch!

Nancy....Very Proud, I can't wipe the smile off my face!

Chatty Crone.... :-) Thanks

Kim....I put 2x's more time and effort into Butsch than any of the other dogs. He was one intense dog, and needed a lot of attention to keep him from being bored. I'm so glad it all payed off!

Candy C. ....All together 5 of the 8 dogs I raised made it. Only about 50 % of the dogs raised become Leader Dogs, so I'm ahead of the odds so far :-)

Michaele....Don't feel bad you didn't know I raised the Leader Dogs...I think we learn little bits about all our followers as we go :-)
There is a hole left when I have to take them back to the school, but you do know why you are doing it. It does change lives.
